The BuildZero project team is committed to placing EDI considerations at the centre of all we do. Project staff are all employed by UK Higher Education Institutions that are implementing a range of EDI policies and processes including holding Athena Swan Bronze Awards (Cardiff University) and Silver Awards (University of Bath, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester and University of Sheffield).
BuildZero aligns project goals and practices with the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council’s Expectations for equality, diversity and inclusion – UKRI. In doing so we commit to the following EDI principles, and have an EDI Action Plan and lead, Professor Kersty Hobson, Cardiff University.
The planning of all activities will remove as many barriers as possible, to enacting best practice.
Mistakes are reflected upon and treated as learning opportunities that form a key part of continual development.
All opportunities are openly advertised through diverse channels with thought given to language, flexibility and reasoning for essential criteria.
People involved in the research, including advisory boards, are fairly recruited, following a process which incorporates current good practice.
A code of conduct is published and adhered to, for all organised activities.
All activities are explicitly inclusive, accessible and diverse for speakers and attendees.
BuildZero is an inclusive environment where all can thrive and all voices in the team are valued, regardless of personal circumstances.
There are effective and robust robust processes for managing bullying and harassment.
People are supported in setting achievable career goals and provided continuing professional development opportunities.
Mentoring and coaching opportunities are encouraged and supported, whether informal or formal.
Diversity is included in research design
Research outputs are accessible and inclusive
