The BuildZero project’s vision is of a UK building stock that delivers space requirements while no longer relying on the extraction of new resources. Underpinning this vision are important social, economic and political questions, such as how resources will be distributed; to whom; and to what ends? As part of the project, we are running a series of 1-day workshops that aim to dive deeper into such questions, exploring with participants what a BuildZero UK could and should look like in the future. In short, what do we value most and how can it be part of a BuildZero society?
We are running workshops with members of the public separately therefore these workshops are specifically for private, public and third sector professionals who work directly on relevant issues e.g., construction, built environment and/or circular economy policy and practice.
There are three workshops planned for October and November 2025, and you are welcome to participate in one of the following:
Insole Court, Cardiff, Friday 17th October 2025: Insole Court Cardiff | Grade II Listed Mansion House
Engineering Heartspace, Sheffield University, Wednesday 12th November: Engineering Heartspace | The University of Sheffield
The Society Building, London, Wednesday 26th November: Elliott Wood | The Society Building
Further details of the exact timings etc will be sent to out nearer the date, but we anticipate start times of no earlier than 10am. All venues are accessible, and lunch and refreshments are provided.
This will be a day of discussion, debate and some moving around the workshop space! Working in small groups, you will explore key priorities for a BuildZero society, with the aim that – by the end of the day – we will have created together a shared vision of the future we want. There is no preparation needed: just bring yourself, your ideas and a willingness to engage with others.
Key things to know:
As this is part of a research project, we will be collecting some anonymised data, including recording plenary discussions. Further information will be provided about this nearer the time, including a consent form, to be signed by yourself.
All participants will be asked to abide by the project’s Code of Conduct, which aims to facilitate fair participation for all.
The BuildZero project team is committed to placing EDI considerations at the centre of all we do and are committed to following our core EDI principles.
