We need your help to build the first detailed model of the materials stored within, and flowing in to and out of, the UK's buildings!
To build this material stock model we sample across a range of building types to derive material intensities, reuse potential and embodied carbon across building layers. This model will then be used to explore how different circular economy design strategies can help meet the UK's buildings needs with zero raw material extraction, zero carbon and zero waste.
The BuildZero research team will be assembling this using data from a range of sources, including various forms of building and material quantity data shared by construction sector organisations. This may include:
Building design data (e.g. CAD, BIM or PDF files),
Bills of materials,
Pre- demolition/redevelopment audits and
Whole life carbon assessments.
All data shared with the BuildZero Research Programme will be managed and stored in line with University of Sheffield guidelines. In addition:
Any identifiable data (e.g. detailing building name or location) will be accessible only by the BuildZero team at The University of Sheffield.
All data shared with the wider BuildZero research team will be redacted and/or pseudonymised as required to prevent identification.
All data included in research outputs or other publications will be fully anonymised.
If you are able to share data with the BuildZero team, please complete this form.
